Planning an Epic Sustainable Wedding
When it comes to planning a sustainable wedding, it’s incredible to see couples weaving personal, meaningful touches into their big day. Over the years, there’s been a huge shift toward eco-friendly weddings, with couples looking to minimise their environmental impact while still keeping everything stylish and unique. As a wedding photographer, I’ve had the joy of capturing these thoughtful celebrations, and I’m here to share why sustainable weddings are not only achievable but also totally awesome.

Sustainable Can Be Stylish!
One of the best parts of my job is working with couples who care about sustainability but don’t want to compromise on style. From the planning stages to the finishing touches, I’ve seen how small, mindful choices can make a big difference.
Take the morning prep, for example. I love creating beautiful flat-lay displays with the details couples provide—like invitations, flowers, and jewelry. These little moments not only look stunning in wedding galleries but also offer an opportunity to incorporate sustainable practices. Custom stationery printed on recycled or plantable paper and vibrant florals from local growers are just a couple of ways to infuse eco-friendly elements into your wedding day right from the start.

Florists, Take Note!
One of my favorite sustainable wedding moments happened thanks to a clever florist. Instead of tossing the offcuts from bouquets and room arrangements, they handed me the extras to include in my morning flat-lay shots. Brilliant, right? Those little bits of greenery and flowers added gorgeous texture and color to the photos—and they didn’t go to waste!
It was such a simple idea, but it made such an impact. The couple loved how every detail tied together, and it was a great reminder that sustainability doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, it’s as easy as giving new life to something that might have been thrown away.
Tips for Planning a Sustainable Wedding
Planning an eco-friendly wedding doesn’t mean giving up on the dream of a beautiful celebration. It’s all about thoughtful choices that reflect your values. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Eco-Friendly Stationery: Choose recycled or plantable paper for your invites—guests can grow wildflowers afterward!
- Sustainable Favours: Swap traditional favours for meaningful ones like potted plants, handmade soaps, or locally sourced treats.
- Ethical Catering: Work with caterers who use local, organic, and seasonal ingredients to keep things delicious and low-impact.
- Upcycled Décor: Embrace vintage or thrifted finds for your table settings, signage, and decor—chic and sustainable!
- Eco-Conscious Travel: Encourage guests to carpool, use public transport, or even hire a shuttle to reduce emissions.
- Thoughtful Registries: Opt for gifts like eco-friendly home goods or experiences rather than traditional material items.

Why Sustainability Matters
It’s not just about the day itself—it’s about the ripple effect. Couples who embrace sustainability in their weddings often carry those values into their everyday lives, inspiring others to do the same. From choosing locally grown flowers to working with eco-conscious vendors, every decision makes a difference.
As a wedding photographer, I’m constantly inspired by the creativity and thoughtfulness of couples who prioritize sustainability. Capturing their celebrations feels even more meaningful, knowing that their love is being celebrated in harmony with the planet.

It’s More Than a Trend
Sustainability isn’t just a passing trend—it’s a powerful way to celebrate love while caring for the planet. Every small step, from reducing waste to supporting local businesses, contributes to a brighter, eco-conscious future.
